The Mound Westonka Hockey Association (MWHA) has established a Financial Assistance Program to assist parents and families in meeting their financial commitments for participation in MWHA’s youth hockey programs. The program provides financial assistance to those who may find themselves in a situation, which would otherwise prevent their children from participating in MWHA programs.
As part of its annual budget, MWHA will determine a dollar amount that will be set aside as a scholarship fund. Funding for the scholarship program comes from donations specially given for hockey scholarships, along with any additional budget dollars designated for scholarships at the discretion of the MWHA Board of Directors. Scholarships are granted on a per season basis and must be reapplied for each year. No scholarships will be awarded at the Mite, Termite and U8 programs. Scholarships are awarded in the form of reduced MWHA registration fees.
The total will not exceed 50% of the total MWHA registration fee and will be applied to the second half payment. Preference will be given to those applicants whose families qualify for public assistance programs such as school lunch subsidies, medical assistance and unemployment insurance.
Families receiving financial assistance will be asked to provide additional volunteer hours to MWHA. These hours, considered Personal Fund-Raising program hours would be based on the amount of scholarship dollars received. Volunteer activities may be comprised of established volunteer opportunities or other forms of volunteer activities mutually agreed upon by the recipient and MWHA.
